Miliujia

The goddess who created the world among of the Zhuang of South China.

A long, long time ago, there was absolutely nothing in the universe. It was just an immense void without form divided into three levels: upper, middle and lower. Suddenly, on the middle level, the earth, a flower appeared. I wouldn't know what color it was, but it opened up and from within it came a woman. This woman is, therefore, the mother of humanity. Her body was covered with hair, which fell from her sides. When people of later generations remember her intelligence they call her Miliujia, when they remember that she had enough wisdom to become the teacher of humanity, they call her Milouxi.

At that time, the world began to separate into two levels. The corn worm flew up, the beetle stayed down. One created the sky, and the other created the earth. The beetle was very active, and made earth very wide; the worm was lazier and made a narrower sky. As they did not create heaven and earth well, Miliujia had to pull the earth up, making its surface swell like a drum, so that heaven and earth fitted well. Where the earth had risen, mountains and hills were formed; where it had sunk, valleys and gorges were formed, and so there were rivers and lakes.

Seeing that the earth was very dull, Miliujia thought of creating humanity. She stretched out her two legs and placed them on top of two mountains. Suddenly a gust of wind blew and she had the sensation that she wanted to urinate, so she did and her urine soaked the earth. With her hands, she kneaded the wet earth and following her own form she molded many people, who when she had finished she covered them with some herbs. After forty-nine days she removed the herbs to look. The clay figures had come to life: very active people running and jumping around. Miliujia, realizing that no matter how much she told them, she could not ease them, went into the forest and collected star-fruits and chili peppers, spreading them over the people.

The people dispersed with haste so that those who were reached by the chili peppers became men, and those who were reached by the star-fruits became women. Since then in the world, there were men and women.

To make the world even more animated, Miliujia took mud again, she kneaded Miliujia. The goddess who created the world among of the Zhuang of South China.

To make the world even more animated, Miliujia took mud again, she kneaded it again and giving it different forms she spread it everywhere. In this way in the sky came the birds that fly and on earth the beasts that run.

When the rains came, neither the birds, nor the beasts, nor the people, had anywhere to shelter. Miliujia opened her legs and sat down, becoming a cave. Since then people, birds and beasts all go to the caves to protect themselves from the wind and shelter from the rain.
